There is a common misconception about short men’s hairstyles 2010. Many men, and women alike, do not like short hairstyles for the most unfounded reason ever.

They assimilate short hairstyles with the ‘brush look’ that only leaves men with a few mm of hair only. While everyone knows this look is not for every man out there, this hair styles is in no way representative for short hair styles. Is your face round? Are you having trouble picking out the perfect hairstyle that would complement your face? Dont worry, because you are not alone. Many women also share this dilemma of finding the best hairstyle that would suit their round visage.

A round face is generally as wide as it is long in the dimensional sense. The hairline in a round face is often wide, and the cheeks are usually full. This facial shape also sometimes makes the neck seem shorter.

There is no hard and fast rule to creating the perfect hairstyle suitable for round faces. Most designed for the round face, however, aim to make the face appear thinner and longer. They are also meant to direct the eyes away from the fullness of the cheeks. A woman with a round face may want to consider these two things whenever she is trying to fix her hair in a more flattering manner.

There are a few things that you may want to try out whenever you are styling your hair or getting your hair done in a salon. You could opt for short hairstyles that add length to your face, or those with the sides cut short or close to the face. Layered bangs also give the illusion of length to the face and should be chosen rather than the straight or heavy bangs; heavy or straight bangs seem to squash the face rather than lengthen it. Curls are also good, although they should be kept away from the cheeks. A bob cut above the chin will look nice for women with double chins rounding off their already round faces, while cropped hair may seem best to make a short neck appear longer.

Round face A woman with a round face can also wear her hair long if she wants to. Long hair done in layers or in a shag looks good on a round face because it makes the face more slender. Long hair piled up on the head also makes the face look thinner. The same slenderizing effect can be achieved with the use of cleverly placed highlights, especially highlights near the face. Long curls with dangling tendrils also suit the round face quite nicely, as long as the tendrils do not fall near the cheeks or close to the face.

There are a lot of styles that a woman with a rounded face can choose for herself. It is a matter of being versatile. But the one true key to finding the perfect hairstyle for a woman with the round face not lies in following the rules or the guidelines, but in following whatever she feels comfortable with. She may follow all the rules and all the trends, but if she is not comfortable wearing it, or if the hairstyle doesnt suit her lifestyle, then the effort is lost.

What she could do to get the best hairstyle for herself is to browse through some magazines, pick out the ones she likes best, and to consult her hairstylist about it. In the end, the perfect hairstyle, whether your face is round or square or oval or whatever shape, is someone that a woman can wear confidently and have fun with.

2010 hair trends: women's hairstyles, colors, cuts

The start of a new year marks the opportunity for redefining one's outlook on the next 12 months. And what better way to do it then through a new hair cut, hair style, or hair colour?

Read on to discover all of 2010's hair trends, hair style trends, and hair colour trends.

Plaited & Braided hair

The popularity of milkmaid braids in 2009 evolves into the braided hairstyle trend in 2010. While it's natural for hair trends to evolve between the years, the resurgence of plaited / braided hair is mostly as a result of the hairstyle heavily featuring on the Spring 2010 catwalks. Particularly prominent on Alexander Wang's Spring 2010 runway, we also spotted them at Miuccia Prada's Miu Miu Spring 2010 and, increasingly, amongst street style pictures.

There are two distinct braided hairstyle looks for 2010: the long side braid, and the fish plait as seen on the Missoni Spring 2010 catwalk.

  • Great with any hair colour
  • The side braid can be paired with the slicked side hair style for an edgy interpretation
  • The fish plait is 2010's take on the simple pony tail
  • Both the side braid and the fish plait work great with a fringe; see the pictures of Abbey Lee Kershaw at Alexander Wang in the inspiration gallery for the best example
  • Similarly: don't thread your fringe, whether it's cut as a blunt fringe or not, into the braid; instead it is best to style the fringe loosely; see the pictures of Anna Selezneva in the inspiration gallery for the best example
  • The fish plait can be worn with a centre part
  • The side braid can only be worn with a side part and the part must be on the opposite side of the head to the braid. If you're stuck for a mental picture when styling this in front of the mirror one evening, simply think of it as the Rapunzel braid
  • Both styles are great for the Autumn (Fall) / Winter 2010 and Spring / Summer 2010 seasons

Long waved hair inspired by the 1940s

Having appeared on our radar in 2009, 1940s hair styles will continue as an inspiration for women's hairstyles in 2010. As it was last year this hair trend is again inspired by the late 40s and, to a lesser degree, the early 1950s.

  • Waves should be firm but not curly
  • Suitable for all hair colours, though less effective on black hair
  • Wear it with an off-centre or side part, not a centre part
  • Length wise, it must fall below the shoulders
  • Pair with classic make-up and styling
  • Inspired by film noir, confidence and sexual innuendo go hand in hand with 1940s wavey hair
  • Suitable both for the Autumn (Fall) / Winter 2010 and Spring / Summer 2010 seasons
